Confession time: I don’t wear a ton of jewellery. The last few years I’ve opted for a ‘less-is-more’ mentality when it comes to jewellery. And when I say “less” I basically mean none at all. Not that I don’t love jewellery – I think it’s gorgeous and elegant and can elevate any outfit. But for some reason when I walk out the door in the morning, I never think “oh no, I forgot to put on earrings!” It doesn’t even cross my mind.
That being said, I still buy lots of jewellery. That’s the weird part. I’ve got a jewellery dish overflowing on my desk of drawers, filled with rings, earrings, necklaces, watches, etc. Some pieces are casual and others are opulent. I have something for every type of outfit. So why don’t I wear it?!?! I hate to say it, but a part of it may just be laziness. Comfort is king when I put together outfits, and for some reason I associate wearing jewellery with being uncomfortable (I can probably thank those huge rhinestone earrings and chokers I had to wear at all of my years competing in dance for that). The other part is that I save my jewellery for special occasions. Getting glammed up? You better believe I’m adding some of my fav pieces to the outfit. But who says you can’t wear an epic pair of earrings to go work in a coffee shop for the day? What’s the point of buying incredible jewellery if you don’t even wear it?
Well, I’m challenging myself to change that habit. I received some stunning pieces from Jenny Bird that I am determined to wear on a regular basis. Jenny Bird is a local Toronto based designer who founded the line in 2008. Since then, it has blown up and retails in over 500 stores worldwide. Celebs like Bella Hadid and Camila Cabello have been spotted wearing Jenny Bird pieces, and after getting my hands on some, I can totally see why! The quality is top notch and they are just so versatile. Dressed up or down, they add mega style to any outfit. You can see more of their line by clicking here, but in the meantime, I’m going to show you how I styled these three pieces.
Like I said above, comfort is so important to me. Most days this time of year I’m either in baggy jeans or black tights, with big cardigans or sweaters. It’s easy to look a little ‘too’ comfortable when leaving the house, and I found that just by adding the Rhye Pendant in Silver to the equation I took this outfit from “lounging on the couch” to “cute and carefree with a touch of class”. The pendant is so light that I barely feel like I’m wearing anything, but still has enough definition that people notice and compliment it. Necklaces are the piece of jewellery that I wear the least, and that has officially changed with this piece!
Now, on to these jaw dropping earrings. As soon as I saw The Carmines in Gold, I knew I had to have them. They are big and bold, yet so graceful and lightweight. To me they are definitely the feature piece of an outfit. I feel so elegant and regal in these, and loved pairing them with this silk patterned top with the high neckline and puffed sleeves. These are the kind of earrings people stop you on the street to ask where they’re from – and you proudly say Jenny Bird!
Lastly, the infamous hoop earring! From about 19 – 22 years of age, I wore hoop earrings regularly. Like, on the daily. And HUGE ones. Gold, silver, coloured, patterned with different widths…you name it. They were my wardrobe staple. And then all of a sudden they were out of vogue, and I ditched them all together. Needless to say, I am beyond excited that hoops are coming back in style – they’re the perfect way to add a little sass to any outfit. I feel like I walk a little taller and have more fun when I wear my Icon Hoops in Silver. Every woman should have a pair of these in her wardrobe – lightweight and simple, yet so transformative!
These are a few of my favourite pieces from Jenny Bird’s Fall 2018 Collection. And guess what? They’ve just released their Holiday 18 Collection! There are so many eye-catching pieces that would be the perfect addition to your holiday wardrobe (because we all know December is the month of glitz and glam and never ending holiday parties). So do yourself a favour and check them out. You can also follow Jenny Bird on Instagram here to keep up to date with the new collections. Happy shopping!
