Hi! I’m Bree Wasylenko. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, I made the move to big city Toronto post high school to pursue my dream of becoming a professional dancer. Over a decade later, I have worked as a dancer in an abundance of films and TV shows (including Top 20 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 3), performed on stages all around the world, and choreographed for major brands and award winning artists. I love to share my passion for dance with anyone and everyone, and continue to teach and choreograph in dance studios all across Canada.
As I started knocking things off of the career “to do” list as a dancer, I began my transition into acting. I was officially hooked after my first on camera scene study class, and knew that I was going to be starting from the bottom…but now we here. My first role was a lead on the hit Family Channel TV show “The Next Step”, and over 100 episodes later “Miss Kate” is still kicking it! I love the challenges of acting and creating a career out of a fun (and kind of crazy) industry, and enjoy playing a wide variety of roles. From a wealthy early 1900’s housewife in “Murdoch Mysteries”, to being painted head to toe green as an Orion in “Star Trek: Discovery”, you never know what the next adventure will be!
But back to dance. I’ve never been one to sit around and wait for opportunities to land in my lap. Have some free time? Not creatively fulfilled? Time to start a new business! (Every. Single. Time.) Six years ago I created Pure Dance Convention, which travels across Canada giving the next generation of dancers an intensive workshop experience, led by the incredibly talented cast of “The Next Step”. It’s a day filled with so much creativity, growth, passion for dance and just pure joy. They are some of my favourite days of the year, hands down.
I am constantly reinventing myself, and love to learn and try new things. From picking up photography, to creating delicious meals, to home reno DIY projects, my life is always on the go and never predictable. There’s that famous question people always ask: “Where do you see yourself in one year? Five years? Ten?” I’ve never been able to answer that question and I LOVE IT. If you’re open to life and it’s magical ways, you never truly know where you will end up. And I think that’s pretty darn cool 🙂
